Behdienkhlam festival in Jaintia Hills is THA most celebrated festival among the ‘Pnars’. This practice had been
long sustained dating back to their ancestors by worshipping nature.

The ceremony and rituals were carried out for four days. Most of the men participated in these four days as a
symbolic gesture of driving evil spirits, plague and diseases by beating the roof of every house with bamboo
poles.

On the fourth day, people dress in their best attire and gather in a place where they all come together and
dance to the sound of pipes and drums. However, women do not participate in these dances as they prepare
and offer sacrificial food to their forefathers.
